Looking for the ultimate game day appetizer that’ll disappear in minutes? These Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls combine two crowd favorites—crispy egg rolls and loaded chili dogs—into one incredible handheld snack. Perfect for Super Bowl parties, tailgating, or any gathering, these easy appetizers can be made ahead and cooked three ways: fried, baked, or in your air fryer. With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a party food that keeps everyone coming back for more.

What Makes This Recipe Special
This twist on classic egg rolls brings game day comfort food to the next level. You get the satisfying crunch of a crispy egg roll wrapper filled with juicy hot dogs, hearty chili, melted cheese, and a kick of heat from Rio Luna Organic peppers. They’re customizable for different heat levels, can be prepped ahead, and work perfectly whether you’re feeding a small group or a stadium-sized crowd.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Here’s what you’ll need to make these Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls. They can easily be made vegetarian or vegan-friendly with veggie dogs, plant-based chili, and vegan cheese. Vegan egg roll wrappers are also readily available at most grocery stores.
Egg Roll Wrappers – Find these in the refrigerated section of your grocery store’s produce area or at any Asian food market. Keep them sealed until ready to use as they dry out quickly, making them impossible to roll.
Cooked Hot Dogs or Veggie Dogs – Shorter hot dogs work best versus “bun length” or “jumbo” varieties. If using longer ones, slice them in half. The hot dog should take up no more than ⅔ to ¾ of the wrapper when placed diagonally. Pan fry, air fry, or bake them for a few minutes before assembling.
Prepared Chili – Leftover homemade chili works great, or use your favorite canned variety. Saucier chilis work better than chunky ones. If your chili is chunky, mash it slightly with a fork before using. Looking for more game day favorites? Check out our New Orleans Seafood Gumbo or Easy Cajun BBQ Ribs.
Shredded Cheese – Use pre-shredded bags for easy prep. Cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Colby Jack all work perfectly.
Diced Onion & Scallion – Fresh onion adds crunch and sharp flavor to these egg rolls. I used red onion, but white works too. Scallions add fresh color and mild onion taste. Use one or both.

Rio Luna Organic Nacho Sliced Jalapeños – These certified organic, GMO-free, fat-free, and kosher pickled jalapeños deliver the perfect balance of spice and tangy flavor. Not too hot, not too mild—just right for game day snacking. Leave them sliced or dice them up for jalapeño flavor in every bite.
Rio Luna Organic Diced Chiles – Want extra heat? Add these organic diced chiles available in hot or mild varieties. Check the heat meter on the label before buying. They’re also certified organic and GMO-free.

How To Stuff & Roll The Egg Rolls
Once you get the hang of rolling these, you won’t want to stop.
Step 1: Prep Your Workspace – Lay an egg roll wrapper on a plate or cutting board. Place a hot dog diagonally so the ends point to the wrapper’s corners.
Step 2: Add Your Fillings – Top the hot dog with 1-2 tablespoons of chili, a sprinkle of cheese, Rio Luna Organic jalapeños and diced chiles, and scallion or onion. Don’t overfill or they become too hard to wrap.
Step 3: Roll It Up – Fold the bottom corner over the hot dog. Wrap the sides inward by the hot dog ends. While holding the sides, roll the egg roll forward until fully wrapped. Seal the edge with a little water and set aside.
Cooking Methods: Fried, Baked, or Air Fried
All three methods deliver delicious results. For air frying or oven baking, brush the wrapped egg rolls with a little oil before cooking for that signature crispy exterior.
Pan Frying – Heat 2 inches of cooking oil in a frying pan over high heat to 350°F (test by dipping a wooden spoon—it should bubble). Add 2-4 egg rolls without crowding. Cook about 2 minutes per side until lightly browned. Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Air Frying – Preheat air fryer to 390°F. Brush egg rolls with oil and cook for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Don’t let them touch in the basket and cook in batches. They’re done when the skins are lightly browned and crispy. Love your air fryer? Try our Air Fried Eggplant or Easy Air Fryer Donuts.
Baking – Place egg rolls 1 inch apart on a baking sheet. Lightly brush with oil. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until lightly browned and crispy.

Serving Suggestions
These egg rolls are delicious on their own, but if you’re setting up a game day spread, offer dipping options like mustard, ketchup, ranch dressing, salsa, cheese sauce, or guacamole. Make Ahead & Storage Tips
Make Ahead – Assemble egg rolls up to 24 hours in advance. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Cook just before serving for best results.
Freezing – Freeze uncooked egg rolls on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Cook from frozen, adding 2-3 extra minutes to cooking time.
Reheating – Reheat in a 350°F oven or air fryer for 5-7 minutes until crispy again.
Recipe Variations
Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls – Replace hot dogs with shredded buffalo chicken and add blue cheese crumbles.
Veggie Chili Dog Egg Rolls – Use plant-based hot dogs, veggie chili, and vegan cheese for a completely plant-based version.
Cheese Lover’s Version – Add cream cheese to the filling along with your shredded cheese for extra creaminess.
Extra Spicy – Use hot chili, double the jalapeños, and add Rio Luna’s hot diced chiles.
Breakfast Style – Fill with breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese, and peppers for a morning twist.

Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls (Fry, Air-Fry or Bake)
Ingredients
- 8 egg roll wrappers
- 1 (8-count) package cooked hot dogs, (shorter ones work best)
- 1 cup prepared chili
- 1 cup shredded cheese, try Monterey Jack, Colby Jack or cheddar
- 24 Rio Luna Organic Nacho Sliced Jalapeños
- 1 4 ounce can Rio Luna Organic Diced Green Chiles, medium or mild
- 1/4 cup onion, red or white, diced
- scallion
- oil for frying (vegetable, grapeseed or avocado)
DIRECTIONS
Filling The Egg Rolls
- Lay an egg roll wrapper down with the point facing you so it looks like a diamond shape. Place a hot dog across the egg roll wrapper diagonally so the ends are in line with 2 of the corners of the wrapper. Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of chili along the length of the hot dog followed by, a little shredded cheese, 1/2 tsp of diced chilis, 3 jalapenos, and a little onion and/or scallion. Don't overfill or you won't be able to close the egg rolls!
Wrapping The Egg Rolls
- Start by folding over the egg roll wrapper corner facing you and snugly tucking it around the hot dog and toppings. Next fold over both sides at the ends of the hot dog. Finish up by folding over the egg roll while gently squeezing. Seal the egg roll edges with a little water and continue with the rest.
Cooking The Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls
- Pan Frying Method: Heat a frying pan over high heat with about 2 inches of cooking oil to about 350º F(175º C). You’ll know the oil is hot enough when you stick the end of a wooden spoon in there and it bubbles. Place egg rolls in hot oil, making sure not to crowd the pan. Cook about 2 minutes per side or until they’re lightly browned. Place on a baking sheet lined with a paper bag or paper towels to absorb any excess oil before serving.
- Air Frying: Heat up your air fryer to 390 and cook the egg rolls (brushed with oil) for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Make sure egg rolls are not touching in your fryer basket and cook in batches. They’re finished cooking once the skins are lightly browned and crispy.
- Baking: Place the egg rolls, on a baking sheet about one inch apart and lightly brush with oil. Bake in an oven preheated to 400ºF (200º C) for 20 minutes flipping halfway through. Lightly brown and crispy is what we’re after.
Serving The Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls
